Chicago Style Slider

Well, we had the opportunity to sample one of these BIG hot dogs from Gorilla Tango Novelty Meats and we were definitely living large. So, what do you do with a 7 pound hot dog? Once we figured out some logistics, we were on course to creating something we appropriately named the "Chicago Style Slider"...maybe we should trademark that.

Our first challenges were deciding how to actually heat up the dog and then how to serve it. After a short brainstorming session we decided to cut the dog into slices (a transverse cut for those engineers out there), throw them on a BBQ grill and then serve them on a poppy seed hamburger bun with all the Chicago Style toppings (mustard, relish, onion, tomato, pickle spear, sport peppers and celery salt).

The venue for this event was a department lunch at the company we work for. Because we wanted to keep this a high class affair, we ultimately used an electric knife to slice up the dog despite other suggestions such as a chain saw. While the "dogs" were being heated on the grill, we prepared all the ingredients and set them out in a conference room.

Finally, it was time to create our Chicago Style Sliders. Everyone gathered in the conference room and carefully assembled their lunch. We weren't sure what to expect, but we were happy about the outcome. The Sliders tasted great and captured the true essence of a Chicago Style hot dog. We even had the occasional wise-guy ask where the ketchup was. Everyone involved had a lot of fun and it definitely gave people something to talk about.
